Harrison Ford, at nearly 80 years old, is returning to the role of the globetrotting, adventurous archeologist Dr. Jones. The as-yet-untitled film is currently in production, with filming having begun last month at Bamburgh Castle in the Northumberland coast of England and now on the streets of Glasgow, Scotland. It is the first installment in the 40-year-old franchise not directed by Steven Spielberg, who instead handpicked James Mangold to direct. Spielberg is still producing the film along with Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall. Mangold penned the script along with screenwriting partners Jez and John-Henry Butterworth.

The cast also includes Phoebe…

Recreational spots across the U.S. hide some dark, murky secrets

Sunken ghost town in Alabama (AL.com)

The Tulsa race massacre of 1921 has received much attention recently, but it is far from the only ugly racist tragedy in U.S. history. In addition to many other black communities that were destroyed by white supremacists, quite a few once-thriving towns are now underwater.

It’s difficult, but it’s worth it.

It can be very difficult and frustrating to take care of a human. But I have risen to the challenge. I've been taking care of my human since I was three months old. I just had my tenth purrthday. So I consider myself an expurrt.

Before I go any further, let me introduce myself. My name is CC - short for Cookies and Cream. I am a black-and-white "cow cat", meaning that instead of a tuxedo pattern, I have random black spots on a white coat. My human (she calls herself Meowmy) likes to name her feline caretakers after sweet…

White people, please pay attention to the following public-service announcement

The world doesn’t revolve around you and your feelings.

We all have to share this giant space rock, and the issues we face — public-health crises, systemic racism, gun violence, etc. — are greater than any one of us. Solutions require cooperation.

Like many others, I’ve been shocked and appalled by so many so-called adults throwing literal temper tantrums inside or outside of stores during the pandemic. Just because they were asked to endure some minor discomforts. After a year and a half, it’s still happening.

PET OWNERSHIP | CATS | HEALING

“Time spent with a cat is never wasted.” - Colette, French novelist, 1873-1954

The best parts of my day are the quality times that I spend with my kitties, when the two of them and I soak up affection from each other. It is well known that cats and other pets are beneficial to our mental, emotional, and physical health. Interaction with animal companions lowers stress and blood pressure, reduces triglyceride and cholesterol levels, relieves depression and anxiety, eases loneliness, and improves mood.

Much less has been discussed, however, about how quality time with pets benefits them. When I stroke my purring kitties, they experience an increase of the hormone oxytocin (a.k.a. the…

The foundation of the anti-abortion movement has nothing to do with morality

Roe v. Wade is facing the greatest threat since the landmark 1973 Supreme Court case was decided. Sixty-one abortion restrictions have been passed so far this year, in 13 different states, according to the Guttmacher Institute, which tracks reproductive-health policy. Eight of the new restrictions would outlaw abortions completely if Roe v. Wade is overturned.

The state laws passed in recent years coincide with 2019 census data that revealed that, for the first time, a majority of the U.S. population under age 16 is nonwhite — and that change in demographics is expected to grow in the coming decades. The…

Many animals cannot and should not be domesticated

Some people have to learn the hard way about the dangers of domesticating animals that just can't be domesticated and the need to respect the spaces and habitats of those wild animals. Here are thirteen cautionary tales.

In May 2020, the year’s first bison attack on a visitor at Yellowstone National Park occurred when an unknown woman was knocked to the ground and injured by a bison when she got too close to the animal.

It’s not an “unfair move"; rather, it would be a correction of unfairness.

There has been much discussion lately pertaining to expanding the Supreme Court. This is not a new idea, however.

Changing the size of the Supreme Court is an idea that’s nearly as old as the Constitution. Congress needs only simple majorities to change the number of justices, which has been done seven times in the history of the United States.

The Constitution doesn’t prevent increasing the size of the Supreme Court in order to balance it or creating a pool of circuit court justices to cycle in and out. In fact, the Constitution says nothing at all about the size…

Heroes don’t always wear capes, and sometimes they have fur and whiskers.

Studies show that having pets has many health benefits; they can boost mental health, lower blood pressure, and help prevent strokes. Plus, they can even save their humans from life-threatening disasters! Cats, despite their reputation for being aloof and disinterested, are no exception - and these fantastic felines purrove it!

A romanticized view of history tells us that fascism was defeated at the end of the Second World War when Allied forces surrounded Berlin, and Hitler, hiding in his bunker, shot himself. For a long time, I believed that — until I took a closer look at American history.
